2013 has been full of developments for the Center for an Agricultural Economy. While growth and change can be challenging, the support we feel from our community and from our partners has been incredible. As we look into 2014, the CAE staff and board would like to extend our thanks to all of you with whom we’ve worked! From our Farm to CoPacker vegetable processing for schools and institutions, to events and workshops across the NEK – together, we are making a difference for working lands, working people, and local food.

A few of the programs and collaborations we are thankful for…

  • We have expanded frozen storage for farmers and producers, with a 17′*23′ freezer.
  • We have a new collaboration with the Vermont Foodbank, with significant donations from food businesses across Vermont, such as Cellars at Jasper Hill.
  • We have new equipment which makes processing and production easier, like automated root crop peeler and 40 gallon tilt skillet.
  • We are a part of Sterling College’s Rian Fried Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.

And going forward:

  • We will be working closely with our area Food Pantry to provide gardening, cooking and preserving classes in the coming year…
  • We will be working with Farm to School organizations across Vermont to develop farm fresh products for schools…
  • We will be assessing our services for the food businesses and farmers that use the Food Venture Center, in hopes to streamline and deliver more..

Without the support of individual donors, foundations and the USDA Rural Development program, the Center for an Ag Economy and the Food Venture Center would not be where we are today. THANK YOU for your support.
