This year, the Center has a few exciting partnerships and projects. We are working closely with local organizations, and we need an organized, highly skilled communicator, who enjoys working with many types of people, and can manage projects to  join us!

About Us:

The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE) is a not-for-profit organization, which works to build a local, healthy, regenerative food system in the greater Hardwick area. The CAE owns and operates the Vermont Food Venture Center; a food-processing facility, food business incubator, and regional food hub. The VFVC serves small food businesses, farmers and large scale vegetable and fruit producers, as well as our community members.  The CAE employs at-will employee and Management reserves the right to assign other duties as required to insure efficient operations.

About the Role:

Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Community Project Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will be to foster, grow and maintain community relationships for the CAE and VFVC within the scope and intent of the CAE’s mission and overall vision, including; manage local food access/hunger relief projects, conduct a variety of outreach activities and events including the recruitment and management of volunteers; oversee the Hardwick Community Garden’s volunteers and gardeners; act as a liaison between the CAE/VFVC and the local community. The Community Project Coordinator is a part time position, based upon grant funding. Federal holidays and vacation time are a benefit of working for the Center for an Agricultural Economy. The potential for growth in this role exists, as we are looking for a candidate who is interested in grant writing and fundraising for additional community projects. This role is paid hourly, at a starting rate of $14/hour, beginning at 20hours each week.

Specific Roles:

  • Manage and coordinate Food Access work for the CAE, such as community garden management, Growing Your Own project, attending Hunger Councils, and working with the Hardwick Area Food Pantry
  • Coordinate communication and work days for the Hardwick Community Garden including events and workshops associated with the HCG, its volunteers and gardeners.
  • Coordinate the CAE’s annual events such as Pies for People, Kingdom Farm & Food Days, Hardwick Springfest, A Harvest of Words: Local Authors’ Read, and others.
  • Coordinate other work around Atkins Field, as needed.
  • Attend relevant community meetings and maintain relationships with collaborative partners
  • Work with local organizations, community groups and individuals to develop and conduct outreach events and activities
  • Recruit, manage and maintain relationships with volunteers for relevant events
  • Contribute to marketing for events and activities by providing text and images for marketing use

Qualifications, Responsibilities and Conditions:

Experience working with volunteers, familiarity with the Hardwick area, commitment to community, clear communication and excellent teamwork desired. A degree in social sciences or social work, specifically focused on community development or facilitation is desired but not required. Experience working in a non-profit or community-based organization, and fundraising desired but not required.

  • Communication – working with volunteers, community constituents and being a public face for the Center for an Agricultural Economy
  • Available regular hours, and consistent days for 20 hours a week, including specific evening or weekend meetings/events
  • Commitment to learning with a team, and creating a culture where we grow and reflect on obstacles and challenges
  • The office environment is in an industrial building, and this position would also include local travel to food pantry, schools, Atkins Field, etc.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Must have good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be comfortable with Microsoft Word and general office software
  • May require attendance at events where professional attire is required
  • Job is based in Hardwick, VT.
