We are excited to announce we are looking to fill another position geared towards an individual who understands creating and developing food markets, building relationships, and who appreciates the value of numbers and survey data as much as they love the food we make!


About us:

The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE) is a not-for-profit organization, which works to build a local, healthy, regenerative food system in the greater Hardwick area. The CAE owns and operates the Vermont Food Venture Center; a food-processing facility, food business incubator, and regional food hub. The VFVC serves small food businesses, farmers and large scale vegetable and fruit producers, as well as our community members.  The CAE employs at-will employee and Management reserves the right to assign other duties as required to insure efficient operations.


About the position:

The Marketing and Outreach Coordinator works closely with the Program Manager to develop the Vermont and regional market for local fresh cut and frozen products.  This position is made possible by a USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant focused on advancing Vermont farm businesses.  This is a grant-funded position which is designed to advance small and emerging farm businesses, as well as moving local product to Vermont schools.  In addition, this position will assist in developing the overall business model to bring product to market, building relationships with Vermont institutional, retail, and charitable markets, and creating promotional materials for products made at the VT Food Venture Center. This position works regularly with other CAE staff, and maintains a commitment to CAE’s mission of local economic development through a revitalized agricultural system in a non-profit setting.

General Qualifications:

  • Customer service orientation and willingness to deal with people every day.
  • Attention to detail throughout the VFVC, understanding the day-to-day functions of a food processing facility.
    • Ability to manage time efficiently and to work with minimum supervision.
    • Great interpersonal skills for product sales and promoting the work of the organization to funders, partners, clients, and customers.
    • Ability to multi-task, have a good sense of humor, and be willing to learn from mistakes!


Job Requirements:

  • Creating relationships which build demand among Vermont and regional markets for fresh cut and frozen vegetable products.
  • Maintain account database through managing sales calls, relaying account updates to CAE/VFVC team as updates relate to product supply and processing needs.
  • Creating samples and product development for institutions, schools, and other new markets.
  • Navigating becoming a supplier to larger distributors for access to larger accounts.
  • Processing and analyzing VFVC-generated survey data; tuned in to other market indicators for fresh cut and frozen product demand.
  • Creating marketing materials of processed product for markets including institutional dining halls and retail refrigerator displays.
  • Coordinate campaign for processed local products into charitable markets, primarily with VFVC partner VT Foodbank.

Employee Responsibilities:

  • Available during facility hours of operation, M-F 8am-5pm. Grant-funded position which may require additional hours at other times as needed.

Work Conditions:

  • The work environment is primarily in a warehouse setting and industrial kitchen setting that has high temperatures, loud noises, and wet conditions.
  • This job will require working between the front office, the warehouse, and the production kitchens.
  • Must lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • May require attendance at events, or demos in which case business attire is required.

Salary and Benefits:

The Marketing and Outreach Coordinator is a grant-funded position which has the potential to continue. Federal holidays and vacation time are a benefit of working for the Center for an Agricultural Economy.
